JYOTI KUMARI – Girl who cycled 1200km to bring back her injured father home
Many stories we have seen and heard during these recent years. One such inspirational & motivational story of a young 15-year-old girl – Jyoti Kumari has come up in limelight during this COVID – 19 Pandemic. Cycling 1200km from Gurugram to Darbhanga was a daunting task.
In January, Jyoti’s father Mohan met with an accident and Jyoti went to take care of him in Gurugram in the month of February. They both got stuck in nationwide lockdown imposed in March- 20. They stayed in a rented home but no support from the landlord and with no money left to pay rent, Jyoti decided to head home to Darbhanga (Bihar)
She Withdrew Rs 1000/- from the bank and managed to buy Rs 500/- second-hand Cycle. She told her father that I will take you home on cycle. Cycling was very challenging on long bridges and that too in summer, night halt at the petrol pump. Passing nearby people offered food and drink.
It is said that “Fortune favors the brave”, that is what Jyoti’s Courage and Self determination made reach her destination.
Many people came up and acknowledged her on reaching home. District Magistrate of Darbhanga, Union Minister Sports – Kiran Rijiju, Cycling Federation, Social Institutions, and Political parties praised for her efforts. It also went viral internationally on Social media platforms and on Twitter – Ivanka Trump highly praised and admired Jyoti Kumari for her courageous efforts.
The film and documentaries have bagged rights for Jyoti’s life story and project to start from August 2020. The film titled – ATMANIRBHAR will be directed by Shine Sharma and will be produced under the banner of WemakeFilmz. It will be released in Hindi, English & Maithili. The film will have subtitles in 20 languages and will be titled – A Journey of a Migrant, for the international audience.
